In hospitality recruitment, personality, communication and experience matter just as much as availability. That’s why we use a blend of group and one-to-one interviews when hiring our temporary workforce, ensuring we can recruit efficiently without compromising on quality.
For high-volume event roles, we conduct remote group interviews. These sessions allow us to meet multiple applicants at once, helping to speed up the recruitment process while still creating an engaging and interactive experience. A typical session lasts around an hour and is designed to be relaxed and welcoming. Everyone attending is allowed to introduce themselves, talk about their previous experience and ask questions.
During the session, we also present typical hospitality scenarios and ask candidates how they would respond.
This could include situations such as dealing with:
These questions help us see how candidates think on their feet while also highlighting those with the confident, outgoing personalities that thrive in hospitality; people who are comfortable speaking up, engaging with others and taking initiative.
This approach helps us understand more than just someone’s CV. Hospitality is a people-focused industry, so it’s essential that we can assess a candidate’s personality, confidence, and ability to communicate effectively. Group sessions also allow us to assess English language skills, teamwork and how individuals interact with others, which are all essential qualities when working in busy event environments.
Candidates who are successful at this stage are then invited to complete their registration process before attending a further onboarding session, which we hold in person whenever possible. This process has been rated 4.5 out of 5 by our candidates, reflecting the supportive and straightforward experience we aim to provide. This helps us finalise compliance checks, provide additional guidance and ensure our workers feel fully prepared before their first shift.
For certain roles, particularly chefs and more senior temporary positions, we take a different approach. These applicants are invited to a one-to-one interview, giving us the time to explore their skills, experience and working style in greater depth.
By combining efficient group interviews with more detailed individual conversations, we ensure every member of our team is the right fit for both our clients and the fast-paced world of hospitality.
