The long-awaited August Bank Holiday is fast approaching, and for many of us, it’s the perfect excuse to indulge in the best that hospitality has to offer. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion, enjoying a meal out with friends, or simply having a few drinks at your local, this busy weekend is a time to unwind. But while you’re relaxing, don’t forget those who spend their Bank Holiday making yours memorable. Here’s how you can help make their weekend just a little more enjoyable.
1. Patience is Essential
Staff are often working under extreme pressure with high volumes of people, longer hours, and potentially limited staff. As a customer, you may experience slightly longer wait times and minor hiccups – but a little patience goes a long way.
2. Kindness and Respect go a long way
Staff are human too. The way they are spoken to impacts their day and well-being. Use manners and avoid rude behaviour if something goes wrong.
3. Be understanding about mistakes
As we previously mentioned, staff are only human, and with a higher demand than usual, small errors can happen. We get it, it can be frustrating. As a customer, the best thing you can do is point out these issues calmly and give staff a chance to correct them without hostility.
4. Remember: Staff may be missing their own holiday
It’s important to remember that while customers enjoy their time off, hospitality workers are often sacrificing theirs to serve others – acknowledging this with gratitude can boost morale more than you think!
5. Speak up when things go Right
Customers can be quick to criticise sometimes, and positive feedback is rare and uplifting. Complimenting good service, thanking the chef or server, and even leaving a positive review can make a huge difference to the people, and the business.
So, this bank holiday, remember that a little courtesy and understanding can make a big difference to those working hard behind the scenes – and of course, enjoy yourselves!
