Fish and Chip shop operators Mark and Pete Petrou have partnered with seafood supplier Young's to open a new restaurant in Cambridge later this month.
A venue owned by the brothers, on Cambridge's Burleigh Street, will be refurbished under the new name 'Young's Fish & Chips' with a new red and navy blue decor. This will be the first time that Young's will be supplying its products directly to consumers, while there will also be a take-away service for those on the go.
Simon Clarke, business unit director at Young’s Seafood Limited, said: “At a time when many high-street brands are purely focused on creating presence in the supermarket aisles with branded products, Young’s Seafood Limited is also taking our retail brand to the high street with this innovative new venture. In combining the extensive seafood knowledge and trusted brand strength of Young’s Seafood Limited with the retail and frying expertise of Mark and Pete Petrou, we strongly believe that we have the perfect skillset to make this new enterprise a significant success.”
Mr Clarke added that all fish will be responsibly sourced and frozen at sea, while all fish products, such as the famous fish cakes, will also be originated from Young's. This announcement follows a recent win of an Outstanding Achievement nod at the National Fish & Chip Awards for the Petrou brothers, which have other sites in Chatteris, March and Ely, Cambridgeshire.
Mark Petrou also suggested that this new opening will not only create a wide array of hospitality jobs for the region, but it will also hopefully be a big move for the overall fishing industry, as demand will inevitably rise.
Young’s Fish & Chips will open on Burleigh Street on January 13th.
