Competitions are just one means restaurant chains have at their disposal when it comes to promotion.
And well-known chain Pizza Express is currently running a competition themed around first-course menu item Dough Balls.
The contest recently resulted in a winner when Bristol Corn Street branch diner Katsiaryna Mosaferi won one of the solid gold Dough Balls involved.
That means there's one more solid gold Dough Ball left to win in the competition, and this one is set to go to a customer buying the brand's supermarket Dough Balls.
The competition is celebrating 45 years of Pizza Express Dough Balls.
As well as giving one restaurant customer a solid gold Dough Ball – valued at £5,000 – it has seen ten gold-coloured Dough Balls placed in special edition packs of the supermarket-sold Pizza Express Original Dough Balls line.
The winners of these get a year's supply of Dough Balls and one of them is set to get the next solid gold Golden Dough Ball.
Around the time of the competition's launch, Parveen Johal, Pizza Express head of communications, said: “The Golden Dough Balls could be found anywhere. We have restaurants from Aberdeen to St Ives and sell our Dough Balls in almost 4,000 supermarkets in the UK so everyone is in with a chance of winning. After 45 years of delicious Dough Balls, there’s never been a better excuse to treat yourself than now.”
Pizza Express also recently revealed that, in a team-up with MySingleFriend, it would be hosting Pizza Making events for Valentine's Day.
Set to take place at two of its restaurants, one in Birmingham and the other in London, these are going to take place on February 14th.
Ten single people at each will be given a partner and make a pizza with them at the events, and there will be a competitive element to the activity, too.
Alongside a variety of other brands, among them Ask and Jamie's Italian, Pizza Express is one of the most recognisable Italian-food-themed restaurant brands on the British high street.
