Whitbread has revealed increasing demand at its Premier Inn sites, as well as growth in Costa stores across the UK, have helped to boost sales during quarter two this year.
The UK’s largest hospitality company, which also has Beefeater Grill, Brewers Fayre, Table Table and Taybarns among its offering, has seen underlying group sales experience a rise of 6.8 per cent.
Speaking to Reuters, chief executive Andy Harrison said the improving economy has helped the hotel market to remain buoyant, with excellent summer performance across the whole company.
Total sales for the 11 weeks leading up to August 14th saw a rise of 12.8 per cent, with the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, partly attributed for the impressive figures. If such growth and profitably continues, Whitbread could soon be helping to create a number of hospitality jobs to handle the growing demand.
Premier Inn alone saw an underlying sales rise of 9.2 per cent, with revenue per available room up 8.6 per cent and a record high in occupancy rates. This is especially positive for this arm of Whitbread’s offering, as 85 per cent of its rooms are located outside of the UK capital, suggesting the country’s regions are performing impressively.
With such success comes expansion, and Whitbread intends to open 300 new Costa Coffee shops and deliver 4,500 new Premier Inn rooms across the country.
For those looking for hotel jobs or any other hospitality careers, it would be advised to keep up with Whitbread’s impressive growth and performance for potential jobs in your area.
In fact, Whitbread’s exceptional figures during the first six months of 2014 has led to further confidence in the brand from Numis analyst Wyn Ellis.
"Whitbread's half year pre-close update is very strong and may lead to some upgrades in consensus numbers," he told Reuters.
Other brands under the Whitbread umbrella have also seen positive sales growth, with Brewers Fayre and Beefeater seeing an increase of 1.7 per cent, outpacing the wider market.
