People in hospitality jobs near Chester Zoo may be set to see a boost to business, thanks to the publicity around the fact that the zoo has just been announced as the UK's best rated as part of the TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice awards.
The awards winners are picked using reviews and views from people using TripAdvisor. An algorithm looking at how many reviews an attraction has from the past year and their quality picks the winners.
Colchester Zoo and Paignton Zoo came second and third in the UK.
Chester Zoo has more than 11,000 animals living at the facility, which spans 110 acres.
Overall it came second in Europe in the awards and took sixth place in the global run-down of top zoos.
“We’re absolutely delighted to have received the seal of approval from the public and named the best zoo in the UK and indeed one of the very best in the world," commented Chester Zoo's managing director, Jamie Christon.
The UK has a greater number of award winning zoo locations this year than any of the other nations in Europe, with eight representatives in the top 25 for the continent.
It also has three winners within the top 25 globally, behind the US which has nine.
“These awards are based on the millions of reviews and opinions written by our global community of travellers," said James Kay from TripAdvisor.
He said that for people on the look-out for things to do on family day trips, the winners in the UK would make a brilliant part of summer school holiday to-do lists.
Fourth place on the UK zoo list went to Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo in Wales and Blackpool Zoo rounded off the top five.
