Calling all sweet tooth’s! It’s the 6th May which means it’s the start of National Doughnut Week… yes you heard right, a week to celebrate the doughnut! The week was introduced to raise money for The Children’s Trust where bakeries, coffee shops and members of the public can fundraise and get the nation loving their doughnuts! So in celebration, we thought we’d put together the ultimate top 6 list for the best doughnuts around. You’re welcome!
Bread Ahead – Borough Market
If you fancy getting in the full swing of National Doughnut week, then you need to get yourself over to Bread Ahead in Borough Market. Not only can you buy these amazing creamy-filled, fluffy doughnuts, but you can learn how to make them yourself in their workshop! Book yourself into a session and learn from the master bakers themselves. Bread Ahead have a few sites across London including Sloane Square and Westfield. The salted caramel ones are a must if you visit.
Pippin Doughnuts – Swindon
All their doughnuts are made fresh on the morning of sale, with the filling being piped by hand. Sound good? Well don’t take our word for it as they have even won a Gold Great Taste award. Each week, they make 9 different flavoured doughnuts ON TOP of their regular flavours which include mixed berry jam, vanilla custard and chocolate. If you don’t live near Swindon, don’t worry as Pippin Doughnuts regularly set up at food markets including Bristol Street Food Market on Wine Street every Friday from 9 am.
The Donut Kitchen – York
For the best doughnuts in and around York, you need to get your hands on some of these! You never know, they may come to an area near you, as this place runs out of its very own trailer. Serving warm sugared doughnuts sprinkled with sugar or cinnamon served with a creamy Belgian chocolate dip as well as their own American milkshakes, what more could you want from a street food truck! They are available to hire for events, weddings and festivals, so if you fancy serving up some seriously good doughnuts to your guests, why not get them on board!
The Manchester Doughnut Company – Manchester
These doughnuts are the best around in Manchester. The owner of the company, Ed Beech has had previous experience in AA Rosette restaurants across the UK and has managed to perfect the delicious doughnut for us. His way is to prove them overnight, giving them an incredible fluffy texture. Here you can grab some amazing flavours including crunchy nut, lemon and pistachio, PB and Jam, chocolate and honeycomb and loads more!
Crosstown Doughnuts – London
If you love to have exotic flavours rather than the classic doughnut flavours, then you need to check out this place. Crosstown bake their doughnuts with a hybrid sourdough making them more a bread-like texture. All made from scratch daily, these are ones that you won’t want to miss out on. Flavours include Beetroot, lemon and thyme, crème brûlée, matcha tea and mandarin and coconut. And on top of all that, they deliver too! Result!
Krispy Kreme – Various Locations
The King of all doughnut stores, yes we just couldn’t leave Krispy Kreme out of the list. These American creations are probably everyone’s guilty pleasure, a store that you just can’t help turn into when you walk past. With their extensive flavour collection including some of our favourite chocolate brands such as Reece’s, Hershey’s and Nutella there is something for everyone’s taste buds.
