Starwood set to open second hotel in Liverpool

Starwood Hotels and Resorts has unveiled plans for a second hotel in the UK to be opened in Liverpool next year.

The 116-room hotel will be under Starwood’s Aloft brand, and will be located within the Grade II listed Royal Insurance building. Rooms will contain walk-in showers, large windows and the high ceilings that the brand is renowned for. There will also be five large spaces with full audio-visual equipment for meetings and conferences, the re:mix lounge, a re:charge fitness centre and W XYZ bar.

Aloft will be working closely with Liverpool Council and BDL Management to create new hospitality jobs for the area; the latter of which will actually operate Aloft Liverpool.

Roeland Vos, president for Starwood Hotels and Resorts in Europe, said: “We are delighted to debut our first Starwood hotel in Liverpool. We see great opportunities to grow our Aloft portfolio in markets such as the UK, where there is a strong demand for affordable yet stylish, cutting-edge hotel brands.”

This new site follows the first Aloft hotel in the UK, which launched in the London Docklands in 2012. During this time Michael Wale, senior vice president at Starwood, stated that he had planned to open more Aloft hotels across the UK in the next few years.

Aloft is the second time a new Starwood brand has opened in London within a year, after the W brand launched the W London Leicester Square at the end of 2010. Starwood is hoping to maximise its hotel portfolio across Europe by a third by 2018, with 50 new hotels planned to open. Nine of these new sites will be launched in 2013 alone.

The new hotel, which is located very close to the Liverpool ONE shopping centre, is scheduled to open in the middle of 2014.
