Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts has announced that it will be opening its first London hotel in The Shard this summer.
Shangri-La Hotel at The Shard will feature 202 bedrooms, four restaurants and bars, a 24-hour gym, an infinity pool and three river-facing conference rooms. The hotel will span between levels 34 and 52 of the 310-metre London skyscraper, which is the tallest building in Western Europe.
The hotel guestrooms, which will average 452 sq ft, will all feature coffee machines, butler services, climate control and special Shangri-La beds with "body-contouring technology".
The four eateries in the hotel will include Gourmet by Shangri-La, a cake shop and deli which will provide sandwiches and pastries, the Shard 35 Restaurant on the 35th floor which will provide courses sourced from local produce, and The Lounge which offers both traditional and Asian-infused afternoon tea and light snacks. There will also be GONG on level 52, specialising in cocktails and drinks. This Chinese-inspired bar will have its own specialist champagne and cocktail bars.
Greg Dogan, president of Shangri-La International Hotel Management, said: "Shangri-La Hotel at The Shard, London, will be a dramatic introduction of our signature Asian hospitality and style to the United Kingdom. International guests already familiar with Shangri-La touches will also enjoy panoramic views of London from all vantage points. But most striking will be the authentic and gracious Asian style of service, the hallmark of our 78 hotels and resorts, which will position this new property at the forefront of the world's finest hotels.”
Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts, which is based in Hong Kong, already has a series of projects planned for China, Qatar, India, Turkey and Sri Lanka. Managers have promised that the new Shard hotel will offer a variety of hospitality jobs.
