Budget hotel operator Premier Inn has announced that it will be opening five new properties in the south east of England.
The chain, which is operated by Whitbread, will be opening 374 new bedrooms across five different sites, as part of its wider plans to expand the branch across the UK. The new hotels will be in Fleet, Farnham, Farborough, Wokingham and Portsmouth, with hopes that 225 new hospitality jobs will be created in the process.
The biggest of the lot will be an 84-bedroom hotel on Dugal Drummond Street in Portsmouth whilst an 80-bedroom site will be on the corner of Denmark Street and Wellington Road in Wokingham. The Farnborough and Farnham sites will both have a 200-cover Beefeater Grill restaurant; the hotels featuring 80 and 60 bedrooms respectively. The final hotel will be located at Waterside Business Park in Fleet and will harbour 70 bedrooms.
John Bates, head of acquisitions for Whitbread Hotels & Restaurants, said: “We’re investing in projects right across the south east and these latest deals add to further hotels we are developing at Gosport and Winchester. Some of these locations are difficult areas to get in to and, in such a market, certainty and adaptability are vital.”
Mr Bates went on to state that the firm currently had 52,000 bedrooms in the UK, with a target to reach 65,000 by 2016. In the last financial year, the company opened over 4,200 bedrooms across 28 different hotels in the UK. This is the fastest rate of expansion the firm has seen in two years running.
In the past 12 months, Whitbread has created over 3,000 hospitality jobs in the UK, with it aiming to develop a further 10,000 across the next three years when it expands both its Costa and Premier Inn brands.
