Building work is about to commence on a £100 million Flaxby Country Resort in North Yorkshire. The site, which will feature a spa, driving range, conference centre, gym, 27-hole golf course and a 303-bedroom hotel, is set to boost hotel recruitment in the region.
The construction work will be carried out by Skelwith Leisure and will begin on May 28th after it was given the green light by the local council. The hotel, in particular, will be one of the biggest in the north of the country, and is actually the second hotel project from Skelwith Leisure after their recent Raithwaite Country Hall near Whitby.
Paul Ellis, managing director of Skelwith Leisure, said: “It has been a long journey to be able to start work on this ambitious project but I am delighted now to be able to finally get cracking. It is a large and complex development and one which we feel will offer many benefits to the whole area. When opened, it will be one of the premier destinations in the north of England and will employ over 300 people."
This project is not the only of its kind in the UK, which will see the standard of golf resorts in the country improve. A Hampshire golf course hotel will be developed at the end of 2013, whilst Wyndham Hotel Group has also stated that it will introduce a new golf hotel in Dundee in the near future. This specific Yorkshire scheme has been liaising with golf management firm Troon Golf since 2010, which will see various tournaments and events held there once the development is complete.
Bruce Glasco, managing director for international operations at Troon Golf, added: “The setting, course and layout of all 27 holes means that we can be very ambitious in our plans to improve the courses and attract high profile events over the coming years."
The resort, which spans across 280 acres, is scheduled to open to the public next year.
