It seems coffee shop brand Costa has increased its popularity this year.
Exactly half (50 per cent) of people taking part in an independent panel of consumers said the brand was their favourite chain of coffee shops.
The results are from Allegra's Project Cafe15 UK report – and show a two percentage point hike on the proportion citing Costa as favourite last year.
As a result of its success in the poll, Allegra has named Costa the Nation's Favourite Coffee Shop brand. This is the fifth time in as many years that Costa has taken this title.
"We are delighted to have been named the Nation’s Favourite Coffee Shop for the fifth consecutive year and to have been awarded the title from an independent panel of coffee shop visitors makes the win all that more significant," said Costa UK Retail managing director, Jason Cotta.
"We would like to thank our fantastic team of baristas in showing outstanding pride, passion and personality in what they do to help earn us the Nation’s Favourite title and we will continue to listen to customers, working hard to ensure that they will continue to choose Costa as their favourite coffee shop."
According to Project Cafe15, the coffee shop market in the UK saw 10.7 per cent higher turnover this year, with sales growth measured at 11.9 per cent since 2013.
Eight in ten consumers in the UK head to a coffee shop once weekly or more and the nation drinks some 2 billion cups of coffee annually at such venues.
The report also shows that Costa has become more popular in London, where 39 per cent of people asked called it their favourite coffee shop – 16 percentage points ahead of the second placed brand.
"Britain is now a nation of great coffee drinkers who have unparalleled access to great coffee in part thanks to the rapid growth of Costa Coffee shops throughout the UK," Allegra managing director Jeffrey Young said.
