Hotel chain Marriott International has brought one of its brands, the Autograph Collection, to UK shores.
Even though the brand currently has 38 hotels across the US, Europe, the Caribbean and South America, the firm will be opening two new sites in London and in Edinburgh in the spring. It is therefore hoped that the expansion will bring with it new hospitality jobs to both regions.
The London hotel will be in Square Mile in the City of London. The 74-bedroom block was originally a luxury boutique hotel, Threadneeedles, and is located close to major tourist attractions such as St Paul’s Cathedral, the Royal Exchange and the Bank of England. A main highlight of Threadneedles will be its lobby, which features a stained-glass dome dating back to 1856, and a fully Victorian restaurant and bar.
The 74-bedroom five-star Edinburgh site will offer a two acre roof-top garden which can be used as event space. The Glasshouse hotel will also feature rooms that offer stunning views of Edinburgh New Town and the Firth of Forth. This site is currently being refurbished and is set to open to the public in June.
Amy McPherson, president and managing director for Marriott in Europe, said: “This is an exciting time for the Autograph Collection in Europe as we add experiences in two of the UK’s most important destinations. Autograph Collection offers an enviable range of artistic, culinary and cultural adventures for our guests and these two iconic hotels will be valuable additions.”
Other hotels that are part of the Autograph Collection’s portfolio include the Hotel L’Hermitage Gantois in Lille, the Fontecruz Lisboa Hotel in Portugal, and the Hotel De Bourgtheroulde in Rouen.
