For those wanting to stay in a luxury hotel, it seems that London is growing in popularity extremely fast. According to the first World Luxury Index report, London is one of the fastest growing destinations in the world for luxury hospitality services.
Generally, interest in luxury hotels remains stable globally, meaning that the availability of hospitality jobs may remain safe in the sector in the near future. Cities such as London, New York, Paris and Dubai remain firm favourites, whilst the luxury hotel market has grown by around 12 per cent in the last 12 months alone. UK consumers are responsible in contributing 1.5 per cent towards this rise, according to the report. For those searching for a luxury hotel, 13.3 per cent had been from the UK; a rise of 8.4 per cent in the last year.
Dissecting the data further, upper upscale hotels, such as the MGallery or Hotel du Vin, remained the most popular among customers within the market, whilst luxury exclusive sites such as the Mandarin Oriental remained most in numbers. The third category analysed was the luxury major integrated chain, like Sofitel or ME Hotel.
The USA still dominated the list, with three quarters of the top luxury hotels being in the US. David Sadigh, founder and chief executive of Digital Luxury Group which compiled the report, said: “America’s State Department has now confirmed that US visa application processing times from Chinese and Brazilian tourists have decreased from a matter of weeks or months to just days. With more high income travellers visiting the US, this will have a positive impact on the luxury hotel industry."
The report, which looked at 70 luxury hotel brands within 10 luxury markets and was based on 133 million consumer online searches, was revealed at the first Luxury Hospitality summit last week in Lausanne, Switzerland, organised by the International Herald Tribune (IHT). The summit saw 170 leading hospitality professionals discuss issues regarding luxury tourism.
