London destinations – such as eateries and attractions – racked up a higher number of new reviews from TripAdvisor users than those in any other single city globally last year, the online brand announced last month.
Overall, users penned 565,742 London reviews on TripAdvisor in 2014, leaving Rome (438,118) to second place and Paris (414,700) to third position. Also in the global top five were New York City and Barcelona. Las Vegas, Orlando, Milan, Florence and Rio de Janeiro were in the second half of the top ten.
Meanwhile, London's Aqua Shard restaurant picked up 1,339 UK TripAdvisor member reviews in 2014 – more than any other restaurant in the UK.
Over the years, TripAdvisor users have penned in excess of 200 million opinions and reviews about over 4.4 million properties and businesses around the globe. The service is the largest travel website on earth.
In the UK, Edinburgh was the city with the second most reviews last year, with 112,855 posted about places in the Scottish capital. Manchester, Glasgow and Liverpool completed the UK top five. The rest of the top ten was made up of York, Birmingham, Blackpool, Bristol and Brighton.
UK members posted 5,944 reviews for the London Eye, more than for any other UK attraction.
“London continues to welcome many millions of visitors each year who come to experience the capital’s unparalleled blend of rich history and heritage, culture, and world famous attractions," commented Julie Chappell from VisitLondon.com.
She later added: "It is fantastic news that visitors to our city are so engaged in sharing their experiences on TripAdvisor during their time here, that we have retained our position as the most reviewed city in the world."
