Karen Broughton has recently been announced as the newly-appointed sales and marketing director for Travelodge.
She has said that she is "delighted to be joining Travelodge at such an exciting time and to be returning to the travel industry".
The new sales and marketing director is set to begin her role this September, reporting to Peter Gowers, chief executive.
Ms Broughton is joining the largest independent hotel chain in the UK from the Money Advice Service, at which she is presently executive director of marketing and service delivery.
Here she brought-in a TV campaign, Ask Ma, which was very successful and she also spearheaded large scale growth in the service's online share.
But she has substantial travel experience, having started her career at British Airways, spending 15 years with the organisation. Her achievements here include launching BA's transatlantic sleepover service.
Next she worked for BAA, as brand director for the UK airport operator, following which she was World Duty Free marketing and communications director.
"The value hotel market is one of the fastest growing areas of travel and Travelodge has a great opportunity to develop a more distinctive personality and further strengthen its offer to customers, both in the hotels and online," Ms Broughton has said.
She added that she looks forward to becoming part of the team and playing a part in driving Traveloge's brand to more success.
"We’re delighted that Karen will be joining the new Travelodge team," Peter Gowers has said.
"We’re making encouraging progress on our strategy and Karen’s extensive experience in developing distinctive brands will be a great asset as we continue our journey to become Britain’s favourite hotel for value.”
Travelodge launched in the mid-1980s and now operates more than 38,000 guest rooms in over 500 hotels, not just in the UK and Ireland, but also in Spain.
