UK Hotel Trade Buoyant Over Christmas Period Thanks To Strong Euro

Despite the economic slow down, research amongst clients of Berkeley Scott recruitment has revealed that bookings at hotels over the Christmas period are still extremely buoyant. This is no doubt due to the strong Euro against the pound, attracting guests from overseas. Berkeley Scott who provide recruitment solutions for the hotel industry have 9 regional offices and conducted their research on a local basis.

3 and 4 star hotels in London and the South-East reported a 90% occupancy over the Christmas period, with 60% of bookings from overseas visitors. This is a 12% rise in occupancy compared to similar research carried out last year. A similar scenario was also evident across other areas in the UK.

Hotels in Leeds reported 85% occupancy with 53% of bookings from overseas. This is an 8% rise in occupancy compared to last year. Similarly hotels on the South -Coast were equally buoyant and reported an 86% occupancy with 58% of bookings from non-UK residents. This is a 6% rise in occupancy compared to last year.
