Hotel chain looks into house guests in Christmas poll

With Christmas Day now imminent, hotel chain Travelodge has released new festive research about who Brits would like to see as a house guest on the 25th.

Brits were asked about their ideal festive house guest, and I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here! presenters Ant and Dec proved the most popular choice, with The Duchess of Cambridge at two and The Queen at three.

Travelodge representative Shakila Ahmed said earlier this month that the chain is seeing a trend for more people staying at a hotel when they visit friends and relatives at Christmas.

"This year we have already experienced a double digit increase in room sales from Christmas Eve right through to New Year’s Day. By staying in a hotel you can alleviate the pressure and everyone can really enjoy the festive season without getting under the host's feet," she said.

It comes as the chain's survey of 2,500 Brits shows that one in two households say festive guests are a hinderance and get under their feet.

Meanwhile, six in ten women say they rank putting on a perfect Christmas for visitors among the year's most stressful tasks.

One in three hosts said that they have put the idea forward that the people visiting them book a hotel to create some extra space.

The mother-in-law emerged as the most common choice of a 'most dreaded' guest during Christmas.

But other people who made it to the seperate ideal guest top ten include Prince Harry, Miranda Hart and Holly Willoughby.

Shake It Off singer Taylor Swift made it to seventh place in the ranking, with Boris Johnson at eight, David Beckham at nine and Prince Charles completing the top ten.
