Jamie Oliver set to open new restaurant in Newcastle

Jamie Oliver is set to open a new restaurant in Newcastle as the celebrity chef looks to expand his food empire across the UK, it has been revealed.

Jamie’s Italian will be located in Monument Mall as part of the £15 million regeneration of the city centre-based shopping centre, reports the Journal Live.

It will be the first eatery Oliver has opened in the North East and will provide a vital boost to the catering industry in the region.

Visitors to the new restaurant will be able to enjoy a range of “accessible and affordable" rustic dishes inspired by the food of Italy, according to the company's official website.

The menu is expected to feature a range of classic Italian dishes including south coast fritto misto, seaside risotto, tagliatelle Bolognese, as well as Oliver's own take on old favourites such as Jamie's favourite Turkey Milanese and Jamie's Italian burger.

There has been no official announcement from Oliver and his team about the new restaurant but an application has been submitted to Newcastle City Council for a licence to open between 8am and 12.30am every day of the week.

It is reported that the new restaurant will occupy the ground-floor unit previously occupied by Boots the Chemist on the ground floor of Monument Mall and follows shortly on from the announcement of Oliver's Ministry of Food project in Northumberland.

Based in the Alnwick Garden, the scheme will teach basic cooking skills taught to those with limited culinary expertise. The initiative was borne out of the 2008 TV series, Jamie's Ministry of Food, and will be run in association with the Duchess of Northumberland.

Braches of Jamie's Italian restaurants are located all around the UK, including York, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Leeds, while the brand is also firmly established in London.

Oliver has even started to roll out the eateries abroad, with restaurants now located in Sydney, Perth and Dubai.
