Hotel operator Hilton Worldwide has announced that it will be opening a new 14-storey hotel next to the First Direct Arena in Leeds.
The 206-bedroom site will be developed by GB Group and it will boast a business centre, restaurant, gym and rooftop bar. The hotel will be just 300 metres away from the music and entertainment venue that has the capacity to hold up to 13,500 people. This will be the third Hilton for the city, following the openings of Leeds City and Doubletree in 1971 and 2011 respectively.
The new hotel will be operated by Redefine BDL, which currently manages 58 properties, three of which are under the Doubletree by Hilton brand. GP Group meanwhile has worked with Hilton in the past to develop Hilton Garden Inn Luton North.
In addition, it has been revealed that Hilton Leeds City will also undergo a £4 million refurbishment as part of a series of changes under the brand. It is hoped that the refurbishment and new site will create a series of hospitality jobs for the local region over the next few years.
Patrick Fitzgibbon, senior vice president for development in Europe & Africa at Hilton Worldwide, said: “The First Direct Arena has already welcomed hundreds of thousands of people through its doors since opening in September and has solidified the city’s status as one of the UK’s leading entertainment and retail destinations, attracting over 25 million visitors a year. Hilton Leeds Arena will provide the quality accommodation such a top-class venue demands and serve to complement our existing city centre Hilton Hotels & Resorts and DoubleTree by Hilton hotels.”
Hilton at First Direct Arena is scheduled to open in 2016.
