Hampton by Hilton set to open its first hotel in Scotland

Hilton Worldwide has announced that it will be opening its first hotel under the Hampton by Hilton brand in Scotland.

Following an agreement made with property firm SCOT Sheridan, the site will open in Glasgow in the summer, just in time for the Commonwealth Games in July. A former office block on West Campbell Street will undergo an £11 million redevelopment by SCOT Sheridan to establish the 88-bedroom hotel that will also boast a 24-hour fitness centre.

Phil Cordell, global head for Hampton by Hilton, said: “The eyes of the world will be on Scotland in 2014 as it hosts both the Ryder Cup and Commonwealth Games. As a result there can be no better time for us to introduce our own gold medal-winning brand to the country."

Mr Cordell added that this project follows the £1.3 billion that Glasgow City Council has invested in infrastructure and transport for the games, and it is hoped that this opening will create a series of hospitality jobs for the city. Glasgow has been a key location for Hilton, having opened Hilton Garden Inn Glasgow City Centre in 2012 and its flagship Hilton Glasgow having celebrated its 20th birthday in 2013. And with tourist numbers set to increase by up to a million a year until 2016, it is the perfect time for Hilton to expand in the region.

This opening is actually the 16th Hampton by Hilton in the UK, while the company plans to increase this figure to 23 by the end of next year. As part of this portfolio expansion, there will be new Hampton by Hilton openings in Waterloo, London, in February and in Sheffield in April.
