It was announced last month that The Grand Jersey Hotel & Spa on Jersey has been bought by Hand Picked Hotels.
Hand Picked Hotels creator, Julia Hands, explained that she and husband Guy Hands have noted a potential for more conference and corporate business in the Channel Islands.
Overall, Hand Picked Hotels, which Julia Hands formed over a decade ago using hotels she had brought with her husband, has 21 hotel venues in its portfolio.
Its latest acquisition forms one aspect of the portfolio's strategic expansion in Channel Islands locations. Its other hotels here are St Brelade’s Bay's L’Horizon Hotel & Spa and Guernsey's St Pierre Park & Golf Resort.
A rebrand for the Grand Jersey Hotel & Spa, situated in St Helier, is planned for next year and it is already being managed and operated by Hand Picked Hotels.
"Grand Jersey will enable us to attract conference and corporate business which tends to focus on St Helier, while L’Horizon Hotel & Spa at St Brelade’s Bay appeals to a more leisure-oriented audience," commented Mrs Hands.
She added that she and her husband have recently ploughed close to £1 million into developing a sizeable L'Horizon spa, so as to position the location as a destination for throughout the year. Mrs Hands also spoke of plans for redevelopment at St Pierre Park.
Grand Jersey Hotel & Spa is a five star property and was bought from RBS Real Estate Asset Management. It boasts 123 guest rooms, business centre and a Michelin-starred restaurant.
The hotel is the fourth that Hand Picked has acquired during the last three years. In 2013 alone, it bought Northamptonshire's Fawsley Hotel & Spa as well as Guernsey's St Pierre Park.
