In what is a highly anticipated move, Gordon Ramsey is set to relaunch his three Michelin-starred Chelsea restaurant, Hospital Road Gordon Ramsey.
This follows a refurbishment and the appointment of Clare Smyth – former head chef – to chef-patron, BigHospitality reported.
Ms Smyth joined Ramsey's team in 2002 as chef de partie and will not take a share in the business, investing in the restaurant and the staff.
There is confidence that the business will go from strength-to-strength and may even lead to further hospitality jobs.
Ahead of the reopening of the business in early March, Ramsey told the newsportal: "I'm incredibly proud of Clare and what she has achieved. She is an amazingly talented chef and the time is right for her to build on this."
Press notes suggest that the refurbished restaurant will take inspiration from Art Deco decor and use the best materials to "emphasise the mood" of different parts of the premises.
Ramsey had previously explained to The Braiser that his decision to close the restaurant was a natural result of what is, essentially, a five year itch.
"I think every five years at that level, to reposition yourself is important," he said. "We’ve got three Michelin stars, the longest time a British restaurant has had three Michelin stars. So every five years, it needs to be moved up."
This is part of Ramsey's continued drive for perfection and, as many businesses will attest, a refurbishment never hurts.
In Oxford, Gee's Restaurant and Bar on Banbury Road has recently been reopened after work on its Grade II listed conservatory was completed.
The restoration cost £500,000 and began on Christmas Eve. In addition to enhancements to the conservatory, the iconic establishment also gained a new kitchen, including a wood-fire oven and charcoal grille.
Part of the community since 1897, the restaurant is just one example of how making changes to a business can ensure it stays at the forefront of its industry for a long time, bringing employment to an area.
