Cotswold Inns and Hotels has now accumulated eight sites in its portfolio, after acquiring a 19-bedroom Hotel in Tetbury, Gloucestershire.
The Close has been sold with planning permission so that an extra five rooms and a 100-cover restaurant can be added to the site, which already features a bar, restaurant, chapel for weddings and events, and conference facilities. It is hoped that the scheme will create a wealth of new hospitality jobs for the wider region.
Cotswold Inns, which was launched in 1997, now owns eight sites, and this will be the first purchase for the firm since the buying of the Hare and Hounds Hotel in Tetbury five years ago. Other hotels that the company owns include The Bay Tree in Burford and The Broadway Hotel in Broadway.
Michael Horton, chairman of Cotswold Inns & Hotels, said: "We have admired Tetbury and The Close for many years and are thrilled to welcome The Close into our fold – Cotswold Inns & Hotels. We are passionate about all of our properties and are really looking forward to working with the team at The Close."
The property was bought off businessman Geoff Dunford, who is looking to focus on the Beeches Hotel and Conference Centre which he owns in Bristol. Mr Dunford added: "The focus of our group has changed and we are concentrating more on conferencing and training in Bath and Bristol, so The Close unfortunately does not fit in with our current business profile. We are sure the hotel will prosper under new ownership and will continue to be a credit to hospitality in Tetbury."
Cotswold Inns was awarded the prize of Small Hotel Group of the Year 2012-13 by AA earlier this year.
