There could be a host of new catering recruitment opportunities for both Caterplus Services Ltd and Elior UK Holdings Ltd after it was announced that the pair are the winners of new contracts.
National retirement housing provider Hanover has awarded contracts worth £25 million in total to the two companies, which will see them provide catering services for patients.
Hanover took a great deal of care over the decision to award the deals, given the added importance of nutrition and food for those of an older age.
The contracts will come into effect on April 1st and will cover 59 of Hanover's 70 Extra Care housing estates that are based in locations across the country.
Lasting for a five year period, the contract has been divided up into three regions.
Incumbent catering provider Elior will continue to provide services for the south and west while Caterplus will shoulder the responsibility for the north of England.
Hanover’s director for Extra Care, Claire Anderson, said the firm had taken into account the views of residents before awarding the contract.
"We’ve listened to residents’ views and it’s clear that residents really value their catering service," she said.
"They want fresh, high quality and nutritionally balanced meals with plenty of choices which suit different tastes and needs."
Indeed, 65-year old care home resident Janet Mizzen was given the task of researching and collating these opinions, working alongside Hanover’s Catering and Procurement team.
Ms Mizzen said: "Selecting a good catering provider is paramount if older people are to maintain good health through healthy eating."
According to the firm, the reason why Caterplus and Elior were given the contracts was actually fairly straightforward.
Hanover claimed they both displayed flexibility as well as in-depth knowledge when it comes to concocting a dietary plan which is appropriate for older people's needs.
Since it was formed in 1963, Hanover has grown to become one of the UK’s leading retirement housing providers, with around 19,000 high quality properties on more than 600 estates.
