Britannia and Houses of Parliament are ‘top UK landmarks’

Britannia, the Royal Yacht, and the Houses of Parliament in London, have taken first and second place in a list of top rated UK landmarks from TripAdvisor.

The list is part of the site's Travellers’ Choice awards, which highlight parks and attractions globally.

"We are absolutely delighted that our passion for delivering outstanding customer experiences has been so highly valued on Tripadvisor, and to be No1 in the UK is a tremendous achievement that our staff can be very proud of," commented Bob Downie, Britannia chief executive.

The boat, based in Edinburgh, was used by the Royal family for more than four decades. The Travellers’ Choice awards are based on reviews of TripAdvisor users.

The winners were picked by an algorithm accounting for review quality and quantity.

The rest of the UK's top ten landmarks were the Bomber Command Memorial at three and the Tower of London at four, followed by Durham Cathedral, Windsor Castle, Big Ben, Cragside House and Gardens, Liverpool Central Library and Edinburgh Castle.

Separate charts have been created for the winning parks, with London's St James's Park getting first place in the UK.

It was found that London, Paris and Moscow have the most Travellers’ Choice award winning parks out of all the countries covered.

London had a higher number of wins in the landmark category, compared to other UK locations.

"With schools breaking up for the summer holidays in a matter of weeks, these attractions will serve as a great must see and do list for families – especially as many of them can be enjoyed for free,” James Kay of TripAdvisor said, of the award winners.
