Barista comp planned at London Coffee Festival

A barista at The London Coffee Festival next year is set to win £5,000 and the title of Coffee Master.

The Coffee Masters competition was announced by Allegra Events earlier this year and is going to take place at the coffee fest, which runs April 30th to May 3rd. An international group of baristas are set to compete.

Sixteen finalists will demonstrate brewing, cupping, latte art, and more in an effort to win. Their work will be scrutinised by a group of industry judges.

Applications opened earlier this year and involve sending in a video about a signature beverage. Applicants must also say why they are a 'Coffee Master'.

As the competition was unveiled this summer, Allegra Events head of events, Ludovic Rossignol commented: "We are very excited about launching Coffee Masters at The London Coffee Festival. The Allegra team has worked very closely with the industry to design this new competition model, which provides the audience with a front row seat to witness world-class baristas competing in a unique, vibrant and highly-entertaining one-on-one battle competition."

Creative coffee consultancy DunneFrankowski are responsible for competition management and development, working in cooperation with Allegra Events.

"The knockout style of Coffee Masters will add drama and visual theatre, whilst the number of disciplines represented will reflect the range of skills required to work in some of the finest coffee shops in the world," the consultancy said.

The London Coffee Festival will take place at Old Truman Brewery in the city.

Applications are still open for Coffee Masters until December 15th, according to the festival website, where you can apply. It's likely to appeal to people in hospitality jobs in coffee shops.
