ARAMARK wins £7m catering contract with University of Worcester

Food services firm ARAMARK has won a new catering contract with the University of Worcester, thought to be worth around £7 million.

The deal will see the firm supply catering, retail, vending and general hospitality services at three sites owned by the university: St John's Campus, City Campus and the Riverside building.

Initially, the contract will run for a period of five years, with an option to extend by another two years after that.

"Our new contract will see us putting into practice core ARAMARK principles of service excellence and innovation, ensuring we help create a great university experience for students and staff alike," commented Richard Arnell, ARAMARK's director of operations for the south-west.

As part of the contract, both ARAMARK and the university will invest in refurbishing the St John's Campus to create a modern new dining area.

"As with all our university contracts, feeding students, staff and visitors is only the start," said Mr Arnell.

"We'll be managing relaxing and stimulating spaces which make great meeting places for those already at the university and superb selling points for those thinking of studying at Worcester."

This latest contract award could also see ARAMARK increase its catering recruitment activity as it strives to deliver a high quality service to the university.

The company already has significant experience in catering for higher education institutions.

In September this year, it was awarded a £13 million, five-year contract with the University of Westminster, which will see it provide catering services across five of the London university's sites.

The company is also currently working with the Universities of London, Salford, Sunderland and York St John.

The University of Worcester is also currently going through a period of expansion, with the 2,000 seat Worcester Arena sports venue due to complete in 2013.

This will incorporate a reheat kitchen facility to serve the university's hospitality functions, which will be supported by the St John's central production kitchen.
