Aberdeenshire advertised in Germany

People in hospitality jobs in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, may find themselves serving more visitors from Frankfurt soon.

VisitScotland recently ran a campaign with Lufthansa and Aberdeenshire Council which hoped to raise the area's profile in and around the German city.

The marketing effort, which featured video footage of Aberdeenshire, has been judged successful, bringing in more than 40 per cent extra web visits than were forecast, as well as close to 5,000 entries to a tie-in competition featuring the prize of an Aberdeenshire trip.

The video was shown online as well as on outdoor screens at underground stations.

There was other internet activity such as ads featuring video, banner ads and e-newsletters. An insert also featured in various print publications. This included a map, attraction information and more.

The marketing campaign took place during a time when Germans traditionally plan holidays, running from January 20th to April 13th this year.

It aimed to create 17,000 web visits, and ended up getting 23,755 to a website featuring various Aberdeenshire-related content such as itinerary ideas.

“These are very encouraging results from this joint consumer marketing campaign and we would hope that these figures convert into visitors to Aberdeen City and Shire in the coming months and years," commented Philip Smith, regional partnerships director at VisitScotland.

He said that partnership marketing work is invaluable for placing the region as somewhere great to visit within Germany and other key markets.

"Scottish tourism has significant potential for growth and it is crucial we continue to work together with partners to promote the region as a year-round destination," he added.

In the year of "global events" in Scotland, like the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, it's crucial to show the country off as much as possible, he explained, and that will help create tourism success in the future.

People visiting hotels in Aberdeen may wish to take in attractions like the city's Music Hall, the Maritime Museum and the Satrosphere Science Centre.

The city boasts a large number of hotels, including branches of big name brands like Premier Inn.
